I’m going to keep this short and sweet because it’s long overdue and I’m on a flight to Florida! haha
I found a few new mascaras to try from clean brands and wanted to share my findings! Beautycounter has two great mascaras – I’ll get into more details later, but they are not my absolute favorites. In January 2020 I had my eyelash extensions taken off and was very new to the mascara game! Why am I looking for a CLEAN mascara? Well, mascara contains some really icky ingredients including coal tar, formaldehyde, and possibly mercury. No thank you! I already use a few other products are not completely clean, so when I found high performing mascaras without toxin chemicals I thought it was important to switch!
To get the growth and volume back I have been using a combination of Latisse and Grandelash. I’ve seen amazing results with both of them – one you can get on amazon and the other you need a prescription.
Let’s jump right in to the reviews — AND beware! Lot’s of up close selfies are ahead!
RMS Beauty Volumizing Mascara
If you’re looking for a solid black mascara that doesn’t flake and removes pretty well – this could be it! It has a soft applicator brush and volumizes really well. It was easy to apply and didn’t clump on my lashes which was nice! RMS Beauty was created by a makeup artist that was sick of products filled with toxins and you can tell she cares about quality ingredients!
I’ll keep this one and use it! Cons are that it’s $28, but you pay for what you get! I also prefer more structure in my applicator brush – this one is very soft.

Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara+Primer
Guys, a duo mascara and primer is GOALS! That alone gave this product an extra point from me!
I applied the primer coat first and let it dry for a minute or two – I could tell that it helped lengthen my lashes. I’d definitely keep this one around just for the primer!
The mascara was great too! You can’t beat the price (under $17) and availability at Target!
OK, so how did it hold up? Well, I don’t usually wear mascara on my bottom lashes, but did for this experiment! It rubbed off easily under my eyes – which was a bummer. My top lashes held strong and looked great all day though!

ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara
On the third day, I tried this one and I was shocked. It applied very smoothly with it’s dual comb. On one side there are short bristles for lower lashes and the other there the bristles are longer to sweep easily. It’s hard to explain, but it made so much sense while I was applying! Did I mention it went on so smooth? It was reallllyyy nice!
I applied to top and bottom lashes and it lasted all day and looked perfect! My lashes seemed longer and more defined. It also washes off very easily with my nightly cleanser.
The price comes in a $28, but I would honestly pay more for it. I’m interested to see how it holds up after a few weeks, but this was by far my favorite! AND it has a cult following!

Beautycounter Lengthening Mascara
Ok, so the truth is… I have never used a Beautycounter mascara up until this year! I had eyelash extensions for so long and never needed mascara. Clients would ask for advice and I could never give them an honest opinion! There are two Beautycounter mascaras to choose from Volumizing and Lengthening. They are both $29, but are very different. For this review I tried the Lengthening one!
It has a very small comb with tiny bristles, so it’s perfect for separating lashes and getting mascara all the way from base to end. The formula is a little sticky. My advice to people is to warm the tube up in your hands by rolling it for a few seconds. It needs to warm up because of the oils in it and how few preservatives it has. Once you do that, it glides on very nicely and lasts all day. Because of the tiny brush you can full coat each lash and define your bottom lashes really nicely!

W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Mascara
Another clean mascara with a cult following and I can see why. It’s the right kind of applicator brush – well, maybe that’s a personal preference! I’ve always liked more a structured brush and this one is definitely that. This mascara gave the best volume of all that I tried. It went on really smooth, but I did need two coats to get the fullness that I usually prefer.
It lasted great all day, but when it came to washing off I did have to use a good amount of eye makeup remover.
Overall I was happy with this one – especially because it’s under $20!

Mineral Fusion Volumizing Mascara
At the beginning of the year I was in a pinch and didn’t have one mascara, so picked up this one from my Whole Foods to hold me over. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of volume it gave and how well it lasted. It’s sold online on Amazon too which is nice!
The con with this one – and it’s a major negative for me – is that SO much mascara stays on the brush and it can look clumpy. I don’t understand why brands haven’t sorted this out yet! The brush was great but every time I pull it out of the tube it’s soaked in mascara.
