There is nothing better than a Cape Cod Summer! The weather is always perfect – breezy + mild humidity. The flowers are absolutely gorgeous and the adventures are aplenty!
We have been going to Mashpee, MA for several years since my father in law relocated from Concord, MA. We’ve made so many great memories at the beach, the pool, and area restaurants that I wanted to share some of our favorites.
The Cape can be overwhelming- even for locals! Most towns have plenty to do of their own, so people don’t venture too far out of their circle. Also, the traffic can be brutal, so it’s easier to stay in your town and find things to do. Last week we ventured outside of our normal routine of Mashpee and Falmouth and checked out Chatham, MA.
I’ve broken this post down into a couple sections to easily refer to! Feel free to share with friends and bookmark for future reference.
To Do in Mashpee
1. The Beaches: there are some great Mashpee beaches. They are more narrow than I like, so I definitely recommend arriving early before the crowd. South Cape Beach is the public beach with plenty of parking. There are public bathrooms, but no concessions. Be sure to pack lunch and a cooler for drinks.
2. Outdoor Dining: there are two areas in Mashpee that we love to eat at. Mashpee Commons has so many great restaurants with outdoor and indoor seating. Our favorites are Bleu and Estia. Another awesome area is Popponesset. This is where you can find my favorite lobster roll from the Raw Bar. They also have oysters and amazing mudslides. I highly recommend The Lure if you’re looking to have a cocktail and some chowder on the beach. Check their website for hours because it is only available to members in the daytime.
3. Shopping: Mashpee Commons has a plethora of stores including The Black Dog, LL Bean, Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, Williams Sonoma and lots of other small shops! I especially love Day Off – a women’s boutique with trendy clothing and Fox + Kit Children’s Boutique for Everly. There is also the BEST organic market, Rory’s!They have all of my favorite clean brands and a great smoothie/juice bar. I’d also recommend stopping at Cape Cod coffee for a Cold Brew!
4. Not a fan of shopping or the beach? Well, sorry to say, but that’s the whole point of the Cape haha! There is the Children’s Museum available in Mashpee, MA. We haven’t been yet, but I heard it’s good! If there’s bad weather I’d recommend checking out the Bowling Alley at Mashpee Commons.
Things to Do Outside of Mashpee
We don’t venture out very often, but when we do it’s always an adventure! We love checking out Chatham! There is the cutest Main Street with lots of small boutiques and popular brands. We also like Lighthouse Beach and the Chatham Bars Inn – it’s a very luxurious hotel with a great beach and restaurant! My favorite things to order from the restaurant are the lobster nachos and tuna tartare.
Falmouth is a quick drive from Mashpee – we’ve been a couple times and love Old Silver Beach. There is parking + a food stand and you could also go grab a drink at Red’s on the water! We also really like Chart Room. It’s on the water and has the best mudslides + chowder! There is plenty of outdoor seating and a huge dock to look out over the water.
Boat Rentals are an awesome way to adventure on the water. We have our first experience with All Cape Boat Rentals this weekend. I’ll be able to report back with more details, but they have a variety of boats to rent in Hyannis. We are renting a pontoon boat for 10 people for a half day. It’s a great way to explore the harbor and enjoy the ocean/sunshine! Fingers crossed for a nice, sunny day!
Two years ago, we stumbled upon Coonamessett Farm and it has been an awesome adventure for us with Everly. It’s located in East Falmouth and has a variety of animals to see, chickens with fresh eggs, and acres of pick-your-own fruits, veggies and herbs. We especially love going when the blueberries or strawberries are in season. There’s just something about picking your own salad that makes it takes 100x better! There is also a restaurant on site that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
